Co(OH)2

Co(OH)2

Details
TOPLUS® Co(OH)2 has a high melting point (approximately 1100-1200℃) and stable chemical properties. As an amphoteric hydroxide, it can react with organic acids in coatings to form catalytically active "cobalt soaps," which forms the basis for its use in catalysis.

RFQ: What is Co(OH)2 ?

Co(OH)2 is commonly found as a rose-red powder, insoluble in water.

RFQ: What role does Co(OH)2 play in the coatings industry?

Co(OH)2 mainly used as a highly efficient drying agent, which can significantly accelerate the drying speed of paint film and improve the anti-corrosion performance of coatings.

TOPLUS®  Co(OH)2 is a widely used oxidative polymerization drier in traditional oil-based coatings, varnishes, and paints. It is particularly suitable for environmentally friendly systems such as water-based alkyd resin coatings, and can be combined with other metals (such as calcium) to construct highly efficient driing systems. Co(OH)2 is also a key raw material for the production of liquid high-efficiency driers such as cobalt naphthenate and cobalt isooctanoate.

RFQ: What is the essence of the drying effect of Co(OH)2?

Catalytic oxidation promotes the absorption of oxygen and cross-linking polymerization of unsaturated fatty acids in the coating, thereby curing them into a film.

TOPLUS® Co(OH)2 primarily promotes surface drying of paint films, significantly shortening drying time. It helps form a denser, more robust paint film, thereby enhancing the coating's water resistance, salt water resistance, and overall corrosion resistance. It performs exceptionally well in low-VOC (volatile organic compound) water-based coatings, helping to meet stringent environmental standards. As a basic cobalt raw material, Co(OH)2 is an important upstream product in the paint drying agent industry chain.

In general, The current focus is on compounding TOPLUS® Co(OH)2 with calcium hydroxide and other similar substances to address the industry challenge of slow drying in water-based coatings, optimizing drying speed and final performance through synergistic effects.
