RFQ: Is cobalt hydroxide hazardous?

May be harmful; May cause skin sensitization; [MSDSonline] See "Cobalt."

RFQ: What is cobalt hydroxide used for?

TOPLUS® Cobalt hydroxide is most used as a drying agent for paints, varnishes, and inks, in the preparation of other cobalt compounds, as a catalyst and in the manufacture of battery electrodes.

TOPLUS®  Cobalt hydroxide is used to provide vibrant, stable blue hues for glass, enamel, and ceramic glazes. It is also used in novel soluble transition metal inks for high-precision digital ceramic decoration via inkjet printing. There are studies exploring its potential to enhance the corrosion and abrasion resistance of glazes.

RFQ: What are the advantages of cobalt hydroxide in ceramics?

Bright colors, highly compatible.

TOPLUS® Cobalt hydroxide reacts with silicates at high temperatures to form blue crystalline phases such as Co₂SiO₄, which are vibrant and stable in color. When nano-sized, it can be used in inkjet printing, solving the problems of nozzle clogging and poor precision in traditional processes. Beyond coloring, through material composites, it can also enhance the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of glazes. Cobalt hydroxide is an important raw material for preparing other cobalt-based colorants in the ceramics field (such as cobalt-aluminum-silicon pigments).

In general, TOPLUS® Cobalt hydroxide is a classic blue colorant raw material with a long history in the ceramics industry. With technological advancements, its applications are expanding from traditional processes to digital printing and functional modification, demonstrating new value.
