On July 30, BP released the 68th edition of BP world energy statistical yearbook in Beijing. There is a growing clamour for action on climate change, but real progress on reducing carbon emissions has been relatively slow and the gap between targets and reality is widening, according to the yearbook.

China's energy mix continues to improve.China's primary energy consumption grew 4.3 percent in 2018, the fastest pace since 2012, despite slowing economic growth, according to the yearbook.

China has become the world's largest oil and gas importer. In 2018, China petroleum's external dependence reached 72%, the highest in the past 50 years.Natural gas external dependence is 43%.

According to the yearbook, annual oil and gas production in the United States grew more than in any other country on record, with most of the increase coming from onshore shale blocks.
